About me
I am Alastair Humphries and have two passions in life that have formed my work life: Interiors and Food.
I did my BA in Interior Design at Guildhall University and my Masters at the Royal College of Art London. After graduation, I moved to Amsterdam to work for the design studio of Gritchnik Designs running the interior design section.
I left London for my other passion – food. Created the very successful Nia brand in restaurants in Sussex across 4 sites, looking for interesting buildings to house the restaurants and utilising my design skills to set the backdrop for the restaurants: from an old printing factory to a disused dairy with an old cowshed that became the private dining room at the Steyning site.
After selling the restaurants, I bought an old Farmhouse in Brittany that had 4 abandoned cider presses. I completely renovated the main Farmhouse that guests could rent to host up to 10 – for a more intimate stay one of the cider presses was converted into a 2 person room.
I have undertaken many Commercial and Residential Interiors featured in several Interior Journals: 25 beautiful homes, French Elle decoration, Marie-Claire homes and This is Life in Sussex.
Please see below examples of my work and our cottage in Dorset where I now live with my Partner and two Weimaraners.
